Okay, so i know i said almost two weeks ago that Someone like you was my favorite song but its totally changed!!! I love this song so much i think its sooo cute! Plus Owl City sings it too. I adore him he is such a cutie! =^.^=

"Cause lovers dance when they’re feeling in love.
Spotlight shining, it’s all about us.
It’s oh, oh, all,
About uh, uh, us.
And every heart in the room will melt,
This is a feeling I’ve never felt but,
It’s all about us."

Somone Like You by Adele

This song is one of the greatest songs i have ever heard. It makes me want to cry but also at the same time makes me think about one of my past relationships and makes me think about how much happier i am with my newer boyfriend.
"I heard that you're settled down
That you found a girl and you're married now.
I heard that your dreams came true.
Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you."

New Nonfiction Books

Please visit the library to check out our new nonfiction books, which we obtained through a Donors Choose grant. Stay posted, as the other shipment of new books is due to arrive any minute. Also, please spread the word that I just wrote another grant to obtain some new fiction books. I have pasted the link below. Tell everyone it would be super duper if they could donate just $5 or $10 to the GKHS library Donors Choose grant. If you visit the link, you will see the books I'm hoping to win. Please spread the word. We only have five months to try to earn $600 in donations to our book grant. Please visit me in the learning center if you have any questions regarding the grant. Let's line up some donors!

Throat-R.A.

So i fell in love with this 553 page book! I just could not put it down to save my life! It was jammed pack full of action and just the right amount of romance. The description that R.A. Nelson puts in the book makes your hear pound in your chest, other times makes you want to scream and other times makes you want to cover your eyes (haha i added a little bit of irony because your reading a book get it? ahah) It was so awesome. I would read it thirty times over.

Renaissance Fair

Okay, so the renaissance fair.
Its this place where you honestly get to escape reality. The first step i took onto the fair grounds I instantly felt relieved of the outside world. After walking around for a little while and meeting all the amazingly nice people and the acrobats i could instantly feel all my worries and fears melt away. I honestly wanted to just run away with the fair and stay in that fairy tale land forever. All my fears slowly left me.
I always like to be around people I know but when my best friends parents offered to let us go off on our own we pounced on the chance to go venturing off. I walked on the dirt roads barefoot in my strapless flowing dress dressed up as a steam punk wonder girl.
bell just rang post more later (:

Three Cheers for Sophie

Kudos to Sophie W., our newest and fiercest contributor to the GKHS learning center blog! Keep the posts coming Sophie and encourage your friends to join and start posting too.

Henna

So I went to a Renaissance Fair recently and got a henna tattoo.
I'm not sure what to think about it, it was something that i had never heard of before so I tried it!
at first i was nervous and didn't like the gooey substance that the lady was putting on my skin, after it dried (10-15 min) she put something called Lemon Sugar on it. Its lemon juice and sugar combine (kinda like lemonade!!) and she dabbed it on there. The gooey henna sinks into your skin and dyes it a brownish orange shade. The designs supposed to last up to 6 weeks. I'm excited and i love the reactions from other people when they see it.
I want to go on google and learn how to make it.
Any thoughts??

Hooray for the New School Year!

Greetings Cog readers! I hope you all had a great summer. I want to hear all about your summer readaholism. What did you read? What are you hoping to read? I am grateful to our new blog followers and posters. I really hope to get the blog rolling this year. Mr. Eich, come back to us. You are hilarious and your posts make my day. What's on your coffee table these days?
Remember that you are free to appropriately discuss any media that young adults might be interested in. You can discuss tv shows, movies, books, graphic novels, music, video games, social networking sites. You name it!
Soon, I will begin this year's reading advocacy campaign, so make sure you're caught reading a book when we run through the halls in search of people to photograph. Let's get pumped about reading y'all!
I'm overdue in throwing out the first discussion topic and since the movie "The Help" just debuted, I'd like to discuss that. I read the book and watched the movie and loved them both. Thoughts?

C'mon!!

C'mon people! Why don't we post a lot ): we need to start checking out the blog and posting new stuff!!!

The Hunger Games

Long time, no talk readers! Spring is coming and everyone should be springing out of hibernation and getting excited about books. Recently, I attended the NIU Literature Conference and learned about a vast array of new and exciting books for young adults. I hope to purchase them for our library soon. In the meantime, PALS is a wonderful resource for obtaining materials we can't yet afford to buy. Please come in and chat with me about the titles I am itching to read after learning about them at the conference. I think you'll be just as excited about them as I am. Even though we don't yet have them at GKHS, I can reserve them in a flash!

We do have one of the titles discussed at the conference. The Hunger Games recently won the 2011 Rebecca Caudill Young Readers Book Award. This award is a children's choice award. Please click the link for more information. http://www.rcyrba.org/ I recently read this nearly 400-page book in one sitting. It was impossible to put down. Science fiction isn't usually my genre of choice, but this book is unbelievable. It is full of action, suspense, and characters so fleshed out you feel you know them on a personal level. The series consists of three books: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay, all of which contain nearly flawless plots and character development. These books catch your heart and carry you along with the characters as they rise up and fight for a better world.

The main character, Katniss Everdeen, is full of determination, strength, and courage. Read the book and ride along with her on her horrific journey through The Hunger Games, an annual competition in which 24 12-18 year old citizens of capitol-controlled Panem are forced to fight to the death in a televised competition. All citizens of Panem are required to watch. When Katniss's sister Prim's name is drawn in the reaping, Katniss volunteers to go in place of her. Life is hard and driven by fear for most citizens in the 12 districts of this country, but many are depending on Katniss to bring hope to people of a nation so controlled by their government that they are helpless to change their lives and she does . . . but at what cost to her family, friends, and the people of her nation? Read this series. You won't regret it. Please visit the official website for more information. http://www.thehungergames.co.uk/

Rise and shine readers and talk to me! :)

Best Book You've Ever Read

Calling all readers . . . . We can't let our wonderful blog meet its end. Let's get the words flowing again with a little discussion about the best book you've ever read. I know it's a tough challenge to choose one, so if you can't, discuss more! That's the point readers and lately, the silence is killing me. Ready, set, read and discuss!
